John Meyer
When, at the age of twelve, Bon Scott shows you how to ‘beat the crap out of a drum kit’, your father is showing you how to fix a 454 hot rod, and you mark out your own quarter mile drag strip with white paint well, it seems likely that you’re destined to be on the Who’s Who top ten list of Australian Hard Rock guitarists. This was the ambience in the formative years of John Meyer, who by the time he was twenty two years old was on ‘the most wanted list’ of rock guitarists, finding fame with nationally... more

Black Steel
In the world of modern music it is hard to go past the sheer devotion that the faithful have to the world of metal. Like the sounds of hip hop, metal is seen by many as a way of life, and as a positive outlet for the trials of the present day. While this devotion has fallen off locally in recent years, there are some acts who have adapted to these changes by tapping into the huge overseas markets, and having a great amount of success that goes largely unnoticed in their own backyard... more

Tim Rogers
It would be a great injustice to Tim Rogers to label him as enigmatic. To be great, after all, is to be misunderstood. The world moves in cycles, beginnings are loose and at best approximate. For instance, did Tim Rogers’ career in music begin in a pair of pinching footy shorts somewhere in the leafless suburbs of Kalgoorlie? Did it begin auspiciously in a dentist’s chair in Adelaide under the sweet influence of N2O and Keith Richards? Or were the seeds for You Am I’s... more

Sleeper X

In the paranoia and seclusion of our modern day lives it seems that the fire of revolution and protest has been extinguished and that people are more than ready to accept what they read and see as gospel, and this can be a dangerous thing. Information is now more than ever before used as a tool for propaganda machines to maintain power. However this information is around us and all we need to do is to wake up and take a look around Sleeper X are one such group who... more

Rick Steele
Sitting in the backyard of his Yokine home, Rick Steele tells me that he plans to keep on playing music for as long as he can and laughs as he says that one of the songs he is working on for his new album is called, ‘I’m Too Old To Be Retrained’, a semi-comedic song about heading into life’s more mature age bracket. “That’s another thing, you have to have a good sense of humour to last in this industry.” With over thirty years experience in the music industry, Steele  has established... more

The Panics

Paul is inside making what I presume is green tea. Jae is sitting across a weathered wooden table in a chair that has obviously been exposed to Melbourne’s schizophrenic climate rolling cigarettes. He is immaculately coiffured in a seventies button-up shirt surmounted by a single-breasted jacket which seems to sidle comfortably between the shirt and wool scarf. I once asked Paul why every Perth band wore scarves all the time and he replied, quite matter of factly, “because it’s so cold...  more

The Hill

Brothers Jon and Jarred of The Hill are about as lovely and sweet as the harmonies they produce. Oh it’s cliché I know, but I’m not the only one they’ve charmed. They have headed down a slightly different musical route, mainly playing in schools and at various events for NAIDOC week instead of on the traditional pub/club circuit. They didn’t plan it that way, that’s just where they’re getting gigs right now. They are certainly making a name for themselves, not only winning the Indigenous category in last year’s...  more

The Fuzz

Although many Perth bands are jumping on the pop music bandwagon, there are still a few around that have decided to take the road less travelled and continue to play some good old rock n’ roll. Never one to follow trends, The Fuzz just keep on getting stronger and have established themselves as one of Perth’s finest rock acts. On the eve of the release of The Fuzz’s debut album ‘100 Demons’, lead vocalist Abbe May said it was great to finally be getting the album out...  more
